What will you study?
The course follows the Edexcel A Level Music specification and is divided into three key areas:
- Performance (30%) – Students perform on their main instrument, presenting a balanced programme of contrasting repertoire.
- Composition (30%) – Students compose original music and stylistic compositions, developing techniques such as Bach chorales, harmony, arrangement and remix.
- Appraising (40%) – Students study a wide range of set works, analysing structure, harmony, melody, texture and instrumentation, and placing music in its wider historical and cultural context.
