Music Tuition

Instruments offered

The school offers individual instrumental tuition on a wide variety of instruments. These lessons are provided by a mixture of Lincolnshire Music Service and private instrumental staff. Students can continue with lessons they may already be having, either in their primary school or outside of school time, but can also start learning how to play an instrument, if they would like to.

We provide lessons on:

  • Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon
  • Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba
  • Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
  • Piano, Guitar, Drum kit, Orchestral percussion
  • Voice

Lesson length and logistics

Lessons can be 15 minutes, 20 minutes or 30 minutes in length, although we encourage parents to book 20 minutes upwards as children make faster progress and are less likely to get frustrated. For the same reason, we do not recommend that children have shared lessons for any longer than the first term. Students come out of lessons and breaks/lunchtimes to have their lessons, with lessons being rotated each week to avoid students missing the same lessons repeatedly. Most instrumental staff have enough students so that students miss the same lesson once a half term. Students can be entered for grade exams if they would like to be or can just play for the sheer enjoyment!

Financial subsidies

Students who are Looked After, Previously Looked After or have free school meals get a 50% discount on
15-minute and 20-minute lessons and a 33% discount on 30-minute lessons. Please contact c.tappin@williamfarr.lincs.sch.uk for further details.
