Fantastic A-Level Results

Fantastic A-Level Results 2024

Students and staff celebrated our highest A-Level attainment rates in public exams, discounting the impact of Covid years, when results were announced today.

With a pass rate of 99.7%, William Farr celebrated its best-ever attainment since the A-Level reform, leading to an average grade of a ‘B’.

Almost a quarter of all grades awarded were A*/A and over half of all grades were A*-B. The percentage of A*-A and A*-B grades increased above 2023 levels.

92% of students were offered University places at either their firm or insurance choice.

Two students have received offers from Cambridge University to study Languages and History respectively. Two students have received offers to study Medicine and one student Veterinary Medicine.

Headteacher Jonathan Knowler described the results as “incredible”.

“The school has achieved its highest average points score per entry (36.5) – above 2023 and the
pre-pandemic years”, Mr Knowler said.

“This cohort were the first to sit GCSE examinations following the pandemic and had disruption to their secondary education. Their GCSE grades were adjusted nationally to take into account the impact of Covid so were inflated compared to pre-pandemic results. Given press reports, we had, therefore, expected A-Level grades to drop, but this has not been the case at William Farr.

We must pay tribute to this cohort of students, whose results are testimony to their hard work, commitment and resolve.

“I’d like to thank the staff who have worked so hard in supporting our students to achieve such a terrific set of outcomes.

“Our focus is not just on those students wanting to progress into higher education.

“Other progression routes will see students successfully pursue work-related training, apprenticeships in a variety of fields, and personal development opportunities through a gap year.”
