Dear Parent/Guardian of Year 11 Students Considering Sixth Form Study at William Farr
SIXTH FORM INFORMATION EVENING
Thursday 24 January 2019 6.00pm - 8.00pm
You are invited along with your child to the Sixth Form Information Evening, which forms part of our programme of advice and guidance to students. It will be an Open Evening format enabling students to visit as many different subject areas as they wish. It includes a talk about the Sixth Form in the Main Hall, refreshments in the Dining Hall, and the opportunity to talk to staff and current students about the different A Level subjects and life in the Sixth Form.
We have placed our Information Evening in January to allow for students to have completed their Year 11 mocks and have a better idea about which subject sessions they wish to attend.
Information about the Sixth Form, the A Level subjects offered and entry requirements is available from the Sixth Form section of the school website. This has been updated for September 2019 entry.
Current students at William Farr will receive their application forms the week of the Sixth Form Information Evening. Forms for external applicants will be made available on the school website at the same time. We welcome students from other schools who wish to join us in Year 12 and have places set aside for external applicants. Students who have applied to other Sixth Forms with an earlier closing date who wish to make an application to William Farr Sixth Form are encouraged to do so.
Applications for the Sixth Form can be made from Friday 25 January 2019. We would prefer for applications to be submitted by Friday 1 March 2019. This gives students time to make an informed choice of subject to study. Whilst we will accept applications or requests for changes of subject after this date, we cannot guarantee that places will be available on some courses.
Expected numbers on the evening mean that we will need to run two introductory talks in the Main Hall. The first will start at 6.15 pm and will be for forms BKT, CAO, GEM, HXM and external applicants. The repeat of this session will start at 7.15 and will be for forms KME, LSN, MRA and OJP. We ask that you attend your allocated session to enable us to balance numbers between the two sessions.
We also ask that external applicants sign in at Reception following the talk in the Hall to meet with staff and be assigned a guide for the evening.
We look forward to meeting you on the evening.
Mr A Stones
