Barcelona Day 5

Today was amazing and really varied.

We left the hotel and headed for the Metro where we travelled out to the PobleNou district. The area was repurposed for the Olympic athletes back in the Olympic Games of 1992. The area originally housed factories, mainly textiles factories and the working class people who worked in and around the area. There was a real range of houses; traditional, modern and futuristic.

Afterwards the Product and Engineering students visited the Design Museum which housed Textiles, Decorative Arts, Graphics and Product Design with a floor dedicated to each. There was a very interesting jewellery temporary exhibition.

Art, Photography, Graphics and Textiles moves onto Casa Mila, the house of Antoni Gaudi. It was really interesting to see his home that he built and the way he had designed it, all made with organic walls and arches. There was real purpose behind all his designs.

Afterwards, we visited Sagrada Família, Gaudi’s masterpiece that can be seen across the Barcelona skyline.

Dinner included a buffet so we were all happy of the variety. We then had what was left of the evening at Maremagnum, a small shopping mall on the harbour and some time on las Ramblas.
