For the second year running Relay For Life Lincolnshire is delighted to be returning to William Farr.
The weekend of Saturday 20th and Sunday 21 July (11am – 11am) will see William Farr’s top field, transformed into a carnival of music, displays, activities, inflatables, climbing wall, archery, refreshments and much more!
You will of course also find our `Walking Track’. Come and support over 40 Relay teams and the hundreds of people, drawn from families, friends and work colleagues, all of whom are doing their bit to raise money for this very worthy cause.
We are delighted to welcome back this year Mr Mattley and the ‘William Farr “A” Team along with numerous young people from the school in our Relay teams. Come and see them on the track as you have never seen them before!
Our 24 hours of endless fun includes themed laps, so be prepared to see your staff and friends in their onesies, beach gear, dressed as Where’s Wally, as men with their hand bags, not to mention our Bra and Knickers to Cancer lap!
Remember Relay is as the name suggests a non-athletic walking event – where members of the team take it in turns to walk around the track - You do not have to wear pink, it’s not just for girls and you do not have to run. Everyone is welcome to come along and CELEBRATE with those who have been given the all clear from Cancer, raise funds to enable the vital research of those at Cancer Research in the FIGHT BACK against this disease and also take time out to REMEMBER those no longer with us.
The highlight of the 24 hours is our inspirational and moving Candle of Hope Ceremony – the walking stops briefly for several poems and poignant songs; sees the whole of the track lit up with candle bags and culminates in a great Firework display.
Relay For Life is an international event, first taking place in Lincolnshire in 2010, organised by a group of local volunteers the event has over the past 3 years raised almost £150,000 – this is absolutely fantastic and we are extremely grateful to all those who have taken part and supported us in some way – we could not deliver RELAY without all of this.
Caroline Swindin, the event organiser, will be coming into many year group assemblies to share the Relay experience between now and July. In the meantime if you would like to learn more or even take part in this year’s event, take a look at our website www.relayforlifelincoln.org.uk or alternatively contact Caroline on 07502 115421.
