Industrial Action Tuesday 1 October 2013

As you will be aware from the media, the NUT and NASUWT Unions will be taking industrial action on Tuesday 1 October 2013. As a result of this, William Farr School will be closed to all students on that day.

The safety and welfare of students is my primary consideration and given the number of staff involved in the action, this means I cannot meet my duty of care and responsibility with any degree of confidence.

The decision to close the school or send pupils home is never taken lightly, but in this instance, where staff have elected to take lawful industrial action, I will have no choice but to take appropriate steps.

We are aware that class/school closures inconvenience parents and carers and so I am writing to give you advance notice of the likely impact of the action on this school.

In the event of the strike being called off, lessons will take place as normal and you will be informed via the website and local media.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Yours sincerely

Andrew Stones, Headteacher
