We believe it is very important that parents are informed about pupils' progress. Reports are issued on a regular basis and parents are invited to attend consultation evenings to discuss pupils' progress. We also recognize that reports are an important source of motivation for children. If parents are concerned about their child's progress, it is important that they make contact with the school quickly. We are always very willing to respond to individual problems and concerns. All pupils in Year 11 will also complete their own Progress File.
William Farr School as an essential part of its Christian foundation welcomes pupils from all religious persuasions and is conscious to act sensitively towards individual beliefs and to provide, where possible, for the specific requirements of worship and observance.
Where parents have particular concerns about aspects of their own beliefs and how these may affect their child's education and welfare at school they should contact the Headteacher in confidence.
The Resources Centre provides a hub of information for students to access throughout the day. All school subjects are represented and the books are reviewed and updated regularly. In addition to this, there is an extensive range of fiction and recreational non-fiction books, audio books, newspapers and periodicals.
In their first term all children are taught how to use the library efficiently and may use the library with a class or individually. The library is open morning, lunchtime, and after school.
There are also regular activities held in the library to promote reading, including regular displays and a reading group. We also hold a games club.
In addition to the library there is an excellent Information Technology suite, photocopying and printing facilities, a fully equipped careers library with trained staff and help and guidance on future career and educational opportunities is available.
Laptops, portable DVD equipment, memory sticks and headphones, digital and video cameras can also be borrowed for school use.
The library and resources area is open from 8.30am until 5.00pm Monday to Thursday, and until 4.30pm on Friday.
