William Farr C.E. Comprehensive School

About WFS Council

The School's Council is an entirely student-run body, acting as the student voice within the school. The council is valued as the most effective means for students to have their ideas heard and often implemented. In recent years, control of the school fund has been transferred to the council who, during their regular meetings, decide where the money will be spent, following requests and suggestions from the school community.

The council has been working very hard this year, and some of the activities and achievements include:

  • Participation in the county council's 'Ready Steady Change' initiative;
  • A year 9 valentines disco;
  • Fund raising for Children in Need;
  • Addressing the problem of the lack of space in the dining hall;
  • Arranging nominations for 'Teacher of the Year 2009';
  • Purchasing bag storage facilities for use outside the dining hall at lunchtime;
  • County Council '11 Million Takeover Day';
  • Arranging for new artwork to be put up around the school;
  • Plans to build a new path by Beck Hall
  • Allocation of a fund to further the school's environmental policies
  • Planting new trees around the school

At the start of every year, form and year representatives are elected, as well as the sixth form executive. The results of the 2008/09 council elections can be seen below.
